School of Science and Technology Singapore (SST) Xin Yao (新谣) Appreciation Workshop

Intune Music Instructors, Derrick Tham, Zuo En, Sia Yeun, Terry and along with Ting Hui and Intune Music Director, Aaron Matthew Lim went over to School of Science and Technology Singapore (SST) and conducted a Xin Yao (新谣) Appreciation Workshop under NAC-AEP Programme!

This workshop is done in a fun and interesting manner, with a short skit and song performances. Through this presentation manner, we provided the younger generation an in-depth understanding of the culture and history of Xin Yao (新谣)  which is unique and an important part of Singapore  Mandarin Music history.

Also, this workshop aims to inspire the younger generation to like the mandarin language more and to pick up mandarin songwriting and increase the exposure of Singapore's mandarin music scene.

We also hope that through this Xin Yao (新谣)  workshop, the audience are able to learn more about Singapore's history, school life, family, philosophy, environment, patriotism!

Intune Music Directors, Aaron Matthew Lim and Peng Chi Sheng with Intune Music Instructor Tay Sia Yeun  conducted Xin Yao (新谣) Workshop at Raffles Institution!

Through this workshop, the students at Raffles Institution were being taught the rich history of Xin Yao (新谣)!

Xinyao  is a genre of songs that is unique to Singapore. It is a contemporary Mandarin vocal genre that emerged and rise to fame in Singapore between late 1970s to 1980s. Xinyao songs are composed and sung by Singaporeans and it is an outlet for them to express their thoughts and feelings around themes like friendships or love stories.

We hope that they will continue to carry and know this unique Singapore music culture for more generation on!
