North View Primary School's 新谣 Xin Yao Workshop!

Intune Music Directors, Aaron Matthew Lim and Peng Chi Sheng and along with Intune Music instructors, Derrick Tham and Tay Sia Yeun conducted a 2-Day 新谣 Xin Yao Workshop at North View Primary School for the Primary 6 Students in October 2018!

新谣 Xin Yao, extended form is Xin Jia Po Ge Yao (新加坡歌谣) ( which simply means "Singapore songs). This is a genre of songs that is unique to Singapore. It is a contemporary Mandarin vocal genre that emerged and rise to fame in Singapore between late 1970s to 1980s.

Xin Yao songs are composed and sung by Singaporeans and it is an outlet for them to express their thoughts and feelings around themes like freindships or love stories.

In this 2 day workshop, we have instilled the knowledge and history of  新谣 Xin Yao to the Primary 6 students in North View Primary School so to help them in understanding the Singapore's music culture and industry better!

With such knowledge, we hope that we can encourage the future young generation of Singapore to be inspired to get involved and continue the music culture in Singapore!
