[NAC-AEP] Songwriting - The Genesis of A Pop Song at Catholic High School

Intune Music Director Peng Chi Sheng （冯启胜）together with Intune Music Instructors, Sin Sek Jhia and  Joanne Teo Zuo En (張祚恩) conducted this workshop for the Primary 1 to 6 students from Catholic High School

In this workshop and performance, the students are given given a more in-depth understanding into the songwriting Process, and how to write a song quickly and easily with the aim to expose the students to the art of songwriting, making it fun and engaging for the students, and allow them to draw inspiration from their daily life, turning their daily activities and thoughts into their own original songs and lyrics!

In the 45 minutes workshop, the basics of songwritings, such as writing a song with only 3 to 4 chords, melody and lyric writing were taught to the students and besides that, our instructors performed several songs to keep the workshop lively and coupled with quizzes and activities to maket the workshop interactive and fun for the students!

Students from Huamin Primary School, North View Primary School and Peiying Primary School were at Intune Music and had their own songs being recorded after a series of songwriting workshops conducted by  Intune Music Instructor, 譚志華 Derrick Tham and Sin Sek Jhia at CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls' School!

Admiralty Secondary School Pop Vocal Workshop

Intune Music Vocal Instructors,  張祚恩 Joanne Teo Zuo En,   洪至慧 Ang Zhi Hui (Zeeaura) and  郑夏韵 Tay SiaYeun, went to  Admiralty Secondary School and conducted a 3 days Pop Vocal Workshop as part of  Admiralty Secondary School's Assembly Programme! 

In this workshops, singing basics such as breathing techniques, body posture, knowledge about vocal folds and vocalisation and also the mouth position for good articulation were taught to students and through this, they are exposed to new learning materials besides their usual curriculum!

Hwa Chong Institution Xin Yao (新谣) Music Appreciation Workshop (NAC-AEP Programme)

郑夏韵 Tay SiaYeun, Lee Ting Hui and Terry Tan conducted 2 sessions of Xin Yao (新谣) Music Appreciation Workshop at Hwa Chong Institution! 

Students at Hwa Chong Institution were given an in-depth understanding of the origin and trends of Xin Yao (新谣) using interactive and interesting presentation of drama and playing as well as song performances! 

From this presentation, we hope that students are being inspired to like mandarin language more and to learn about the uniqueness about Xin Yao (新谣)  in Singapore's mandarin music history and its importance role in Singapore's hertiage and legacy.

Lakeside Family Services Singing Lessons!

It is never too old to learn something new! The seniors are attending Choral Singing under Kaki Kampong Seniors Wellness Centre (KKSWC) conducted by Intune Music Vocal Instructor, Tay Sia Yeun (郑夏韵) ,  which is a programme of Lakeside Family Services. 

We hope the seniors will understand more on singing after the 10 lessons and also to put up a simple singing performance at the end of the 10 lessons programme.

Lakeside Family Services' Kaki Kampong Senior Wellness serves seniors aged 55 and above in Jurong East, Jurong West and Taman Jurong. They help them achieve the six wellness dimensions; Physical, Financial, Intellectual, Emotional, Social and Spiritual Wellness.

Lakeside Family Services (LFS) was established in 1993 as one of the early Family Service Centres in Singapore. LFS provide highly subsidised and quality services to underprivileged children, youths, families and elderly, regardless of race, language or religion.

Chung Cheng High School (Yishun) Mandarin Songwriting Competition Music Video Filming

We are filming the music video  for the winning song in Chung Cheng High School (Yishun) Mandarin Songwriting Competition 【Our Chung Cheng, Our Songs】!

This year is the 3rd year that we have collaborated with Chung Cheng High School (Yishun)  and provided this valuable learning experience to the students! 

This is an partnership with Intune Music, where the winning song from the Mandarin Songwriting lessons conducted by Intune Music, will be professionally recorded and produced and the song will be filmed locally by  Express Oh Photography and Film  !

Through these workshops, music production and music video filming, students from the Chung Cheng High School (Yishun)  benefited from gaining the valuable experiences and knowledge in a full music production from writing the songs and eventually able to have their song being filmed as a music video!

Nan Hua Primary School Xinyao (新谣) Appreciation Programme

Xinyao (新谣) Appreciation Programme at Nan Hua Primary School! 

Intune Music Instructors,  Derrick Tham 譚志華,  Joanne Teo Zuo En 張祚恩, Tay Sia Yeun 郑夏韵, Lee Ting Hui and local artiste, Drake Lim 文强, together with Intune Music Director, Peng Chi Sheng 冯启胜 were at Nan Hua Primary School and they presented Xinyao (新谣) Appreciation Programme in a fun and interesting skit and also song performances! 

The student from Nan Hua Primary School was given an in-depth understanding of Xinyao (新谣)'s origins and its rise and fading in popularity. 

The objective of this programme is to educate and share with the younger generation that Xinyao (新谣) is an unique and an important part of Singapore's mandarin music history. 

It also is to inspire them to like the mandarin language more by making it more interesting and engaging when music is incorporated into the presentation!

【Our Chung Cheng , Our Songs 2019】Chung Cheng High School (Yishun) Recording!

On 14 August Wednesday, Intune Music Director, Peng Chi Sheng and Studio Engineer, Sin Sek Jhia, did a recording for the 4 talents from Chung Cheng High School (Yishun), who wrote the best song for 【Our Chung Cheng , Our Songs 2019】! 

And we will be organizing and arranging a music video of their song in September 2019! 

This is part of  Chung Cheng High School (Yishun)'s Learning for Life Programme (LLP)  and this  programme is divided into 2 tiers. 

For the Tier 1 programme, the entire level of Secondary One students were given a series of songwriting, lyrics writing, music arrangement as well as pop vocal lessons in order to motivate and inspire them to be able to write songs with Mandarin lyrics. Some allowance was given for the non-Chinese students to write their song lyrics in English as well.

For the Tier 2 programme, selected Sec 2 and Sec 3 students were given intensive lessons in songwriting, lyrics writing, music arrangement and vocal training, and their songs were then recorded into a finished product, and after which,  the selected song will be chosen for production and recording!

Senior Citizen Pop Vocal Course @ Kaki Kampong Seniors Wellness Centre

Intune Music Vocal Instructor Ms Tay Sia Yeun 郑夏韵 will be conducting a series of 10 lessons singing workshop from July to Sep 2019 for the senior citizens at Kaki Kampong Seniors Wellness Centre under Lakeside Family Services. 

It will never be too old to learn something new!

Many people think that we should only take up vocal lessons or learn to play a new instrument when we are still young.

However, contrary to popular belief, research has shown that learning music has positively impacted senior citizens’ health and well-being!

Maintaining a strong cognitive ability is a high priority for senior citizens, and learning a new instrument or singing skill will certainly help with memory retention, concentration, focus, and psychomotor coordination skills.

What are some of the other benefits for picking up music or singing after 50 years old?

• Maintain and nurture a sharper memory
• Reduce stress and lower the risk of depression
• Strengthens memory and reading skills
• Positive impact on preventing diseases such as Alzheimer’s, as well as fending off some forms of dementia

Radin Mas Primary School iPad Ensemble Playing Workshop!

Intune Music Director Aaron Matthew Lim and Intune Music Instructors Sek Jhia, Hui Shan, and Sia Yeun are conducting a series of iPad Ensemble Playing Workshops for Primary 4 students at Radin Mas Primary School! 

In this series of workshops, students are taught how to make use of software in their iPads to create music with various instruments and combine them to form a music ensemble. Songs such as Marshmello's "Happier" were used as an example to build their music foundation before getting students to play together as a band!

AWWA Ukulele Workshop at SUSS!

Intune Music Instructors Nigel, Terry and Sia Yeun went over to Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) Campus to conduct a 3.5 hours Ukulele Workshop for the beneficiaries and volunteers from Asian Women's Welfare Association (AWWA)

AWWA is a social service organisation, serving over 10,000 of the disadvantaged across life stages. Services include early intervention for pre-schoolers, education and disability support for children with special needs, assistance to low income families, caregivers, and health and social assistance for vulnerable seniors. AWWA is Singapore-based, with an Institution of a Public Character (IPC) status.

In this workshop, the participants were taught how to play various songs which includes many popular pop songs such as Katy Perry's Roar and Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are! 

The participants has enjoyed themselves and managed to learnt many songs with just a few hours in this ukulele workshop!

The students will have their voices recorded in a professional recording studio setting and also filmed as a music video too!
